The time has finally come when power solutions such as solar panels and wind turbine are a strong complement, and alternative even, to the electric grid or gas supply. In the state of Massachusetts alone, recently enabled green energy policies that promote green buildings and green communities make grants and subsidies to commercial and municipal projects. Residential alternative power installations are also eligible for energy grants.

In addition to these funding sources, the net metering option makes it possible for owners of wind turbines and solar-generated power to sell their excess electricity into the grid (net-metering) at favorable rates for installation of up to 2 megawatts.
